The 30-year-old American, who reached the 2022 Australian Open final, stunned No. 53, produced an imperious display filled with powerful hitting to become the lowest ranked woman to ever win the Miami Open. Collins defeated the 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in the Miami Open final. And when the Kazakh faltered and conceded three set points at 6-5, Collins pounced to take the first set. Despite her success in Miami, Collins said she will not reconsider her decision to retire.

Now part of the permanent collection at the Palm Springs Art Museum, the story of Albert Frey’s “Aluminaire House,” and its significance in the history of architecture is quite remarkable. If you had never seen a modern house — and most Americans had not — it probably looked like a set for a science fiction movie. Even today, it looks “like it’s from another planet,” said Palm Springs Art Museum CEO Adam Lerner. After years of negotiations and fine-tuning the logistics, the Foundation donated Aluminaire House to the Palm Springs Art Museum in 2020, which subsequently raised $2.6 million to cover the cost of its rebuilding and future care. Now, though, a massive new study published in the journal Nature has shed new light on the effect of remote work on innovation. Even though remote work is a relatively new development in corporate settings, scientists and inventors have been collaborating over long distances for decades. On remote teams, by contrast, the more established collaborators tended to come up with the original idea on their own. And just because remote collaboration didn't work for innovation in the past doesn't necessarily mean it won't work in the future. But the study's findings — given the remarkable sweep of the data it examined — do suggest some guidance for companies in the age of remote work.

Freedom of political expression in Israel with regard to the Israeli-Arab conflict, especially with regard to Israeli policy toward Palestinians, has always been precarious, especially for the Palestinian citizens of Israel. It shouldn’t be surprising: In societies that contain widespread nationalistic tendencies, as is sadly the case in Israel, war and national tragedies create the perfect environment for witch hunts and the accelerated branding of critics and minorities as enemies from within. The suppression of speech and targeting of critics of Israel’s policy toward the conflict has always had a strategic goal. Crushing dissent and eliminating the political force of Palestinian citizens of Israel are crucial conditions that must be met to achieve that goal. Michael Sfard is an Israeli human rights lawyer and the author of “The Wall and the Gate: Israel, Palestine and the Legal Battle for Human Rights.”

Von Schuckmann said the jury is still out: “We certainly have studies to show that sunscreen used on a daily basis reduces skin aging. There are two types of sunscreen ingredients: mineral and chemical. In general, sunscreens are more effective at stopping the shorter UVB rays than the longer UVA rays. Sun protection factor, or SPF, only refers to how well the sunscreen prevents a sunburn, meaning how well it blocks UVB. When it comes to choosing the best sunscreen to prevent signs of aging, Dr.

Freyr could see monster gains over the next 12 months after a slow start to 2023, according to Morgan Stanley. Analyst Adam Jonas upgraded the battery stock to overweight from equal weight. "We see next 3-6 months as a catalyst window for unlocking shareholder value," Jonas said in a Wednesday note. "In our opinion, FREY is a relatively binary investment opportunity that we believe can show meaningful progress on commercial milestones." Freyr will start reporting key production metrics including uptime to show its operating capabilities.

“Affected could mean made better, made worse, disappeared, doubled.”One complicating factor is that technology tends to automate tasks, not entire occupations. In 2016, for instance, the artificial intelligence pioneer Geoffrey Hinton considered new “deep learning” technology capable of reading medical images. And Mr. Hinton has since become a vocal public critic of the same technology he helped create. “People always think that the number must be somehow solid, you know, because it’s a number. It’s possible that you should charge more per hour, because you’re going to get a lot more done.

Morgan Stanley has identified several stocks to invest in as electric vehicle battery manufacturing shifts to the West. EV giant Tesla , auto parts maker Aptiv , and battery maker Freyr rank highly, according to Morgan Stanley, while Ford and Chinese batter maker CATL rank lower. Tesla Tesla is well placed to overcome the three challenges, Morgan Stanley said. Ford / CATL Morgan Stanley noted that companies like Ford and Chinese battery maker Contemporary Amperex Technology, or CATL, might face challenges when it comes to "onshoring" due to geopolitical concerns and potential technological barriers. Ford will own the new facility but will license battery manufacturing technology from CATL, including technical expertise.
Such a productivity boost could make a four-day workweek more possible. Calls for implementing a four-day workweek have picked up steam over the past year as pilot programs have described promising results. "Any technology that increases productivity, ChatGPT included, makes a shorter workweek more feasible," Carl Benedikt Frey, an Oxford economist, told Insider. 'The workweek length is up for grabs'Rep. Mark Takano, a Democrat from California, is among those advocating a four-day workweek. "Yes, ChatGPT might make a four-day workweek more feasible in principle," Frey said.
U.S. importers are fighting millions of dollars in fees imposed by the world’s largest ocean carriers with the help of a new federal law and a newly emboldened regulator. He said his company, Lion Energy LLC, which imports about 800 containers a year, felt it had little power to dispute the charges. Now, Mr. Frey and hundreds of shippers like him are turning to rules set out in the Ocean Shipping Reform Act, which passed Congress in June. The new shipping law endorsed an FMC rule published in 2020. But shippers are still able to challenge fees that predate the law under earlier FMC rules.
In 2013, Oxford economist Carl Benedikt Frey estimated that nearly half of all US jobs could be replaced by AI. So rather than having your job "outright replaced," Frey says, ChatGPT's adoption may ultimately result in a different outcome — being replaced by another human. That said, he believes the study's estimates regarding potential AI job replacement are still "broadly on target." "We may be more focusing on generating the right ideas, asking the right questions, things that are more interesting." That's because there are arguably some things ChatGPT can't learn from scouring data from millions of websites.
The global electric commercial vehicle market is expected to top $370 billion in annual revenue by 2030. With a flood of new battery-powered autos set to transform the business of building passenger vehicles, it was natural that commercial vehicles would be next. The global electric commercial vehicles market is expected to surpass $370 billion in annual revenue by 2030, according to Guidehouse Insights. It also has its toes deep into electric mobility, building batteries not only for EVs but also electric buses, boats, and trucks. Now, through internal changes and acquisitions, BorgWarner is positioning itself for the electrified future, especially as that future comes to commercial vehicles.
‘Life Is Hard’ Review: Suffering Gladly

In this masterwork, Lady Philosophy (personifying wisdom) comes to Boethius as a physician promising to cure his sickness of mind. A committed atheist, Mr. Setiya begins with a nod to the unhappy reality of the human condition: We are born to suffer, in complex and multiform ways. Unlike Lady Philosophy, he offers his readers no cure. There is simply no way to spin this straw into gold, no path to true happiness out of our sorrows. In fact, Mr. Setiya counsels, we should reject happiness as a goal altogether, and instead think about what it means to “live well” in our suffering.
